Algeria spends nearly 10 billion DZ for terror victims : minister

Algerian solidarity minister Djamel Oueld Abbas said Wednesday more than 9.53 billion DZ have been spent on victims of the national tragedy since the Charter for Peace entered into force in February 2006.

  • The government pledged to allocate 22 billion DZ to help terror victims as part of the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation.
  • “More than 5.42 billion DZ has been spent on needy families,” said Ouled Abbas in an official conference in Algiers.
  • In October 2004, Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika proposed the Charter for Peace and National Reconciliation in attempt to end violence. It was approved in September 2006 via a popular referendum.
  • Algeria witnessed a 10-year- violence wave in the 1990’s which killed about 200,000 people.
