Algeria subsidised milk up to 12 DZ

Algerian government will raise subsidy of milk up to 12 DZ per litre following a common agreement signed with milk transformers, according to national agricultural chamber chief.

  •
  • “The government decided to move up milk subsidy from 7 DZ to 12 DZ as part of new mechanisms which will come into force in the next few days,” Mohamed Cherif Oueld Hosine told Echorouk Saturday.
  • This decision comes as milk transformers had asked to liberalise the price or subsidise the product. They found themselves losing with the low fixed price in Algeria and the increase of powdered milk in the international markets.
  • Milk distributors are permitted to sell it for 24.10 DZ and retailers for 25 DZ, gaining 0.90 DZ in the process.
