Algeria : suicide bombers sentenced to 3 to 20 years prison

A court in Oran (west of Algiers) opened a file concerning serious cases in relation with jeopardizing state security involving 5 defendants including the brother of the suicide bomber Marwan Abu Dina alias Abu Sajida who was behind the Government Palace attack on April 11 2007 in Algiers. In addition to 11 others who are on the run.

The court sentenced them to 3 to 20 years prison including M.A,  Abu Sajida’s brother who was convicted to 5 years prison. Facts of this case back to June 2007, when security officers received information on the existence of a terrorist group in connection with the preparation of explosives intended to bomb buildings and public places western Algeria.

After investigators begun their work, one named M.A and four other accused : T.A, H.B, B.M, A.M and M.A, Abusajida’s brother were arrested. They admitted he was amongst that terrorist group but the statements of T.A  who lives in Oran was serious. According to the assignment decision, the latter stated before the examining judge that he owns a kiosk and Abu sajida’s brother asked him to join the terrorist group which was planning to blow up an industrial zone in “Arziew, Oran.
