Algeria Summons Malian Ambassador Posted In Algiers

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday summoned the Ambassador of the Republic of Mali in Algeria over the recent attack by rioters on the Algerian Embassy in Bamako.

The spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Abdelaziz Ben Ali Cherif, said to this effect that the convening of the Malian Ambassador posted in Algiers was meant to have explanations from the latter about  the assault on the sanctity of the Algerian embassy compound in Bamako, while pointing out that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs  has meanwhile opened an investigation into the recent events described by the spokesman as  “unfortunate”.

Malian media reported that the Algerian embassy in Bamako was attacked and partly ransacked on Tuesday March 13th by illegal Malian migrants expelled of late from Algeria.

According to these media outlets, the authors of the ransacking of the Embassy premises acted in this violent way to “protest against the treatment they have been meted out and the conditions of their expulsion” and that there were “several hundred expelled migrants” to have expressed “their dissatisfaction in front of the Algerian Embassy in Mali “.

The Algerian Embassy’s unfortunate attack came at a time when some ill-advised NGOs were trying to manipulate international opinion, claiming that the Algerian authorities were allegedly mistreating Sub-Saharan refugees who flocked to Algeria in recent years.
