Algeria: suspects’ file in presidential assassination attempt introduced into indictment chamber

The case file of the assassination attempt against Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has been introduced into indictment chamber at Batna’s court (east of Algiers), Echorouk has learnt from reliable sources.Security investigations which were opened after Houari Belezrag alias Abu Mokdad al-Wahrani had blown himself up on September 6th, 2006 in Batna province shortly before the arrival of President Bouteflika. The blast took 25 lives and wounded 173 people.

A total of 11 suspects were arrested including two who directly supported the suicide attack.

According to observers, the suspects would be charged with an assassination attempt against President Abdelaziz Bouteflika and compromising the security of the State.
