Algeria: Thousands of municipality workers to stage sit-in out of President’s Office
Thousands of municipality workers are expected to stage a sit-in out of the Palais du Governement’s headquarters on Thursday calling on the interior minister to negotiate about their claims.
- President of the Council of Municipality’s Workers Ali Yahia told Echorouk on Tuesday his union plans to organise a big gathering out of the Palais du Gouvernement on the last day of the forthcoming five-day strike.
- He stressed the necessity of satisfying their claims. Of them, compensation system revision and obtaining a copy of the workers’ status which is under preparation, pay raise and retirement without age limitation.
- A number of workers held a gathering out of the Municiplaity of Setif (east of Algiers) while the administration continued to threaten the strikers.
- About 75 percent of municipality’s workers are expected to go on the five-day strike.
