Algeria to import meat from Sudan during Ramadhan: Official reveals
The Sudanese ambassador to Algeria, Mohammed Hamed Al Faki has revealed that a group of Algerian vets is due to pay a visit to his country in a bid to supervise the quality of the Sudanese meat that the Algerian authorities intend to import ahead of the holy month of Ramadhan.

Talking yesterday on the sidelines of the setting up of the Algerian- Sudanese Parliamentarian Committee, the ambassador has declared to Echourok that the Algerian delegation’s visit to Khartoum comes after the one paid by a group of Sudanese agriculture experts to Algeria earlier this year during which the Algerian operators have expressed their interest in the import of the Sudanese meat.

The Algerian vets will make sure that the Sudanese cattle are healthy and devoid of diseases, though this operation is not necessary because the Sudanese cattle breeders follow traditional ways to breed cattle instead and avoid the use of chemical products to fatten them.

The Sudanese official has indicated that his country is ready to supply Algeria with the required quantity and with a lesser price compared with the frozen meat that Algeria used to import from South American countries.
-
-
In this respect, the ambassador has indicated the price will not exceed 450 Algerian Dinars the Kilogram at worst. The experts have taken into account various factors to set up the final price, including the geographical distance that separates the two countries which is estimated at nearly 4000 kilometres.

The Algerian agriculture minister Rachid Benaissa has indicated in a recent past that there is a strong will to give a new impetus to the diplomatic ties between the two countries through the import of meat but didn’t take on him to fulfil this goal, arguing that this operation should be carried out by the investors.

Sudan is the first supplier of meat to the Gulf countries and Egypt and exports millions of sheep to Saudi Arabia during the Pilgrimage season.
