The National Commission for Prevention against Corruption is expected to start receiving property statement in mid March from local newly elected and will start carrying out an inventory of senior officials, customs executives and agents and tax workers’ property in April, the commission president Ibrahim Bouzeboudjen said on Tuesday.

The operation will be carried out in coordination with local authorities. Elected people will have to give statements about their properties during certain periods.

“The Commission will centralize all the statements at the finance ministry and establish a data base of 70,000 employees’ property. Of them, 26,000 are elected people,” Bouzeboudjene told Echorouk.

“According to the law, false statements will lead to prison sentences between 6 months and 5 years along to 50,000 or 500,000 DZ fines. After people make their statements, investigations will be opened to confirm the information contained in their documents,” he added.

The Commission was created in November. Its officials started reorganizing it as they realized that its former regulations were not appropriate. It was adapted through the creation of three sections: properties statement, cooperation with ministries and awareness-raising campaign about corruption dangers.
