Algeria will train its judicial police in the fight against cyber-criminality, according to national police chief.

  • “This training will be conducted locally and abroad. Special brigades will be created to counter cyber-criminals,” the Police Magazine quoted Ali Tounsi as saying.
  • “Collaboration with involved institutions and the International Police (Interpol) in this field will be increased as well,” he added.
  • According to Tounsi, the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC) is using the Internet to promote its crimes and recruitment among young people in Algeria. Because of that, there is a need for international cooperation.
  • Internet providers are also held responsible, said the police chief as terror-related websites are hosted abroad.
  • “Internet providers must take part in the fight against terrorism and cyber-criminality.”
  • A draft law is being elaborated to oblige Internet operators to provide assistance in counterterrorism operations.
