Algeria will carry off “Desertec†project successfully, regardless of the partner: minister says
The Algeria energy and mines minister Youcef Youssfi has indicated that the Algerian authorities are now ready to make of the giant renewable energies’ project “ DESERTEC†a total success, but didn’t select a given partner so far,.
- “ We will start a joint venture in the renewable energies’ sector either with Germany or other partners as soon as we precisely determine the program “, he said.
- The minister has further noted that Algeria will concretely start off the project in 2011 and will enable the country to produce 40% of its energy needs by the next 20 years. He has indicated that the country’s consumption of energy increases between 6 to 7 % each year, which implies that it has to double its production capacities each 10 years.
- On the other hand, the minister has summoned his managers in the different provinces to apply stringent security measures in the mines to assure health and security environment for the workers.
- He has noted that the government has allocated an envelope estimated at 8 million Euros to encourage mines’ research. He also asserted that his sector is looking forward to increase Phosphate production to reach 5 million tons, while the current production doesn’t exceed 1.5 million tons.
