Algeria: women to hold senior positions in security forces
National Police chief Thursday said females in national security forces will be promoted to higher positions as part of periodic changes at the National Security General Department structures.
“The National Security General Department will consider the appointment of women in senior positions such as Provincial Security Chief or Central Director,” Abdelghani Hamel told Echorouk.
“I know that women are hard working elements. Sometimes, they are better than men. Because of that, we thought of appointing them in senior positions in the national security forces as part of periodic changes,” he added.
Speaking about last week’s attack on passengers on tramway in Algiers, he said the security department is following up the situation and ready to step up measures in favor of public interest.
Algerian transport minister Ammar Tou said the case must be handled by security authorities.
