Algeria’s Abdelkader Ghezzal: We Can’t Just Focus On Our Matches Against Morocco

The Bari striker says that qualification for the 2012 AFCON will be dependent on all of Algeria’s matches, not just two.

Algerian center forward Abdelkader Ghezzal has told Al Heddaf that the Fennecs must regroup following their disappointing start to 2012 AFCON qualifying where they drew Tanzania 1-1 in Blida. According to him, other African sides have come a long way and both the Taifa Stars and the Central African Republic will have their say in upcoming matches even though many had initially pegged Morocco as Algeria’s main rival.

“People need to understand that now there aren’t any more weak teams in Africa. The other match where the Central African Republic tied Morocco is the perfect illustration of this. We have to stay on our guard and prepare our upcoming matches in total serenity,” he said.

“If we think that our only real group rivals are Morocco then we will be making a huge mistake. We have to be ready for every game and we shouldn’t focalize on the double confrontation with Morocco.”

As for Algeria’s anemic attack which has struggled to produce goals for a long period of time, Ghezzal believes that only hard work and dedication will reap results but that it also doesn’t matter where the goals comes from.

“I’m convinced that goals will come through hard work and seriousness. What is essential is victory, it’s doesn’t matter which player scores. Everyone needs to aim for qualification to the 2012 AFCON. We have the means to achieve this objective,” he added.
