Algerian ambassador to UN: emergency state is not an impediment to the rule of law
The Algerian delegation which is taking part in the 40th session of the UN commission against torture in Geneva , has presented thorough figures concerning the implementation of the national peace and reconciliation procedures so far.The Algerian representative to UN, Idriss Al Djazairi asserted n response to some NGOs, which criticized the project, saying that “The project was backed by the Algerian people through a referendum, and nobody showed the Algerian people the way to follow to stop bloodshed and start a new the reconstruction of the country”.
In his intervention, the Algerian ambassador to UN stressed the importance of shifting the interest on human rights and avoid its use for ideological purposes adding that” the Algerian delegation refuses to reduce the will of millions of its fellow citizens, who adopted unanimously in a referendum the charter for peace and national reconciliation, to a mere resolution”.. “The Algerian government stood against an unprecedented terrorist attack and to protect the nation, scores of policemen and military troops died in the battle fields”, he added.
As to the request formulated by the UN experts concerning the lifting up of the emergency state, the Algerian ambassador replied “The emergency state are preventive measures implemented by the Algerian authorities to guarantee the well functioning of the states’ institutions protect peoples and properties” .
