Algerian authorities brace for the arrival of a snowstorm and torrential rains in the coming hours

A mass of cold air coming from Eastern Europe has reached the day before yesterday Egypt, Syria and Lebanon causing heavy rainfalls and blizzard and blamed for various damage and human losses. The depression is due to reach Algeria today.

• The meteorologist Boualem Khelif has yesterday indicated to Echourok that this Siberian storm was heading for Russia passing through the Middle- East region. Torrential rains were blamed for several deaths and damage in Egypt while snow blanketed mountains in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.

• The expert has also indicated that weather conditions have improved in those areas adding that” the climate will get back to normalcy in the upcoming few days”. M khelif has noted that this climatic phenomenon is not unexpected and will move to Algeria soon.

• The mass cold air was concentrated over Poland and Austria then crossed through Greece and Turkey to reach Lebanon, Syria and Egypt where it left victims unlike they other times because this country is known for it hot weather.

• The meteorologist has further added” A warm air coming from the southern parts of Algeria starting from today will cross Libya heading for Lebanon to meet with the Siberian cold air shifted thus, direction of the mass cold air towards Algeria”.

• This freezing air stream will persist over the upcoming days and is likely to reach the southern parts of the country including the provinces of Ghardaia, Djelfa , Biskra and Ouargla followed by a drastic fall of temperatures and even snowfalls on heights ranging from 600 to 700 meters on Tuesday night to Wednesday morning.

• To recall, 22 people died the day before yesterday in Egypt in the wake of the torrential rains that hit the country.
