Algerian authorities impose taxes to punish foreign car retailers
Urged by the Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahiya, the Algerian finance minister karim Djoudi, ordered a new tax, as a necessary and preventive measure to face the increasing demand of new cars, which saturated the Algerian park and caused traffic congestion, in addition to the harmful effect on environment, sources said.

But the main cause behind this law, according to the same sources, comes as punitive measure against the major car makers that failed to fulfil their part of the contract signed with the Algerian authorities, which forces these companies to set up car factories on the Algerian soil in two years time.
