Algerian authorities open the sky for private companies

National and private flight companies express their interest to invest in this sector.

The Algerian transport ministry started looking at requests from several national and foreign private flight companies which expressed their interest to invest in this sector.

So far, two companies have formally sent their requests to the ministry which launched the first initiative of its kind in creating the so called “Aerial taxi” as a first to move to cope with the World Trade Organization standards. The Algerian transport minister has declared that the time has come to open this sector for competition in order to foster the quality of the services.

Small planes whose total seats do not exceed 20 belonging to private companies have been selected for this operation, as part of the conditions set up by the World Trade Organization.

One of the mentioned companies which have been granted the right to start the “Aerial Taxi” operation is “Tassili Airlines” which was in charge till the present time of assuring the transportation of the employees of the Algerian Hydrocarbon company, Sonatrach, along with top officials and VIPs.

In this respect, the head of the transport committee at the national parliament, Mohammed Benhamou has declared in a radio program that the Algerian authorities gave their go ahead for the Algerian private operators to invest in the aerial sector through the “Aerial Taxi” in order to improve the quality of the services for the travelers to the south.
