Algerian border guards seize 500 kg of cannabis west of Algeria
Services of the border guards of Meghnia, Telemcen, west of Algeria, thwarted on Wednesday at 7:30 am, an attempt to smuggle over 500 kg of cannabis coming from Morocco.

Sources from the Algerian Gendarmerie told Echorouk that they received information about a plan to smuggle a significant amount of cannabis from Morocco towards the village of Bojnane, north of Telemcen, west of Algeria, then to Oran and the eastern localities, that’s why they launched an investigation using the penetration method and monitoring of the suspects movements.

A raid operation by the Algerian border guards at 7:30 am resulted in the seizure of a car type Peugeot 405, as investigations have shown that it has forged documents and was left by its owner who fled to Morocco.

During the inspection, carried out by the same services, 500 kg of cannabis in the form of plates and hidden securely inside the box of a car with a numbering of Oran locality, west of Algeria, have been seized, as preliminary investigation showed that the car was re-configured in a workshop in Beni derare village located in the borders between Algeria and Morocco, in order to carry more drugs.

On a related issue, members of the research team belonging to the national gendarmerie of Telemcen, west of Algeria, retrieved a plastic bag that was hidden inside the bushes and containing 30 kg of cannabis, as investigation is still ongoing and three drug smuggling networks have been dismantled in one month and 15 Algerian drug baron were also arrested, while five barons are still escaping, including two Moroccans.
