Algerian child in critical health condition in Jordanian hospital after medical error

Algerian child in critical health condition in Jordanian hospital after medical error

The Algerian child is still suffering on one of the Jordanian hospitals’ bed following a gross medical error made a Jordanian doctor who carried out a surgery on him despite his feverish state causing paralysis, brain damage and loss of sight and hearing.

  •
  •
  • The child’s parents are desperately fighting to shed light on the matter but are facing staunch resistance from the hospital’s managers who denied all responsibility in the medical error and threatened them of expulsion from the premises.
  •
  • In a telephone conversation with Echouorok, the boy’s father Salim Khelloua has related his story in detail sating “ My ordeal started when the Algerian  doctors have diagnosed a serious anomaly in boy’s heart that requires a complicated surgery that cannot be done in Algeria… After several administrative procedures, the managers of Mustapha Bacha Hospital of Algiers have given their go head to transfer my child to Jordan and stand for all the expenses including my wife’s and boy’s travels”.
  •
  • He went on saying “On our arrival to Jordan on July 17, 2010. We were received by the hospitals Director General and the doctor who consulted my son and informed that he will carry out the surgery the very next day… But Abdellah (the child) was in a feverish state and had a pulmonary inflammation caused by the plane’s air conditioner, prompting the doctor to postpone the surgery until his full recovery; But I was surprised by the surgeon’s decision to carry out the operation considering the act not risky for my boy’s life”.
  •
  • “ The next day after the surgery, the doctor has assured me that everything went well and the operation was a success at 95% issuing instructions to the medical staff to put Abdellah under respiratory assistance between 24 to 48 hours, but they only put him for 09 hours considering that his state had improved and fell in a coma causing irreversible brain damage to him”
  •
  •  The neurologist has informed me that my son had a partial damage in his brain, paralysis and loss of sight and hearings two hours after stopping the respiratory assistance.
  •
  • “ My son is still lying in the intensive cares unit shouting 14 hours a day daily  and his head has swollen  and because of the lack of movement.”
  •
  • He further added” I have sent a medical report to a hospital in Marseille, France and received an alarming response saying that my child’s case is desperate because  his brain was prevented oxygen for a long period in addition to carrying out the operation while the infant’s temperature high”
  •
  • The desperate father has indicated that his son is now left without any medical assistance.
  •
  • M Salim Khelloua has resorted to call on the Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to assist him after seeking help from the Algerian ambassador to Jordan but didn’t react accordingly.
