Algerian customs pledge to fight against all forms of corruption

Algerian customs’ General Director has declared that his institution will wage a merciless war on corruption and will face up to the corrupt elements that undermine the sector.

Talking on the occasion of the opening of the fourth National Forum of the Customs’ Managers hosted by the province of Ghardaia( southern Algeria), Mohammed Abdou Bouderballa has pledged to crack down the future cases of corruption “ Everybody knows that some corrupt elements have been busted and the investigations are still underway but this time around, the wrongdoers will be fought by their fellow colleagues in the sector”, he said.

M Bouderballa has indicated that the Algerian customs are facing new challenges imposed by modern technology. He added, in this respect, that the sector will be endowed with skilled personnel and state-of –the- art equipment to enhance the performances in the different corners of the country.

However, he acknowledged the difficulty of the mission on account of the size of the Algerian boarders that stretch for 6000 KM, but the Algerian authorities have endorsed a series of strategic plans that his sector rely on to live up to the future challenges, he said.

M Bpuderballa has indicated that the number of customs officers has soared over the last few years moving from 15 thousands to 20 thousands to reach 25 thousands during the upcoming three years.

The real challenge of his sector, he added, consists in stiffening security along the southern borders of the country that stretch 2500 KM , amid growing threats of smugglers from the neighboring African countries
