Algerian delegate ministers warns Beriane troublemakers

Algerian delegate minister to the interior affairs Dahou Oueld Kabliya decided on to visit the city of Beriane (600 km south of Algiers) once a week after it had witnessed clashes between residents on Friday.

  •
  • According to local sources, the minister talked to Ibadite notables from the Mozabite community and the Malekite (Arab speaking) on the conflict opposing the two communities.
  • Two people were killed and hundreds were wounded in the clashes along with several damaged buildings.
  • “The Beriane events are no more than a socio-political issue. The State will severely punish everyone involved in terrifying people,” said the same sources citing the minister.
  • Calm has been restored in Beriane’s streets as the angry people who blocked the main roads withdrew.
  • The meeting came up with a decision to set up a national commission in charge of creating field cells throughout Beriane’s areas.
  • Notables also decided to form a delegation to head for the president’s office in order to convey a file with reports and letters to President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
