Algerian delegation deals with 2 Guantanamo released Algerian detainees

Leader of human rights body in Algeria Mustapha Farouk Ksentini said an official Algerian delegation of representatives of foreign affairs and interior ministries received 2 Algerian detainees released from Gunatanamo Bay, Cuba.

  •
  • According to Ksentini, the Algerian delegation is handling the released detainees pending for the settlement of necessary administrative and legal procedures for their extradition to Algeria.
  • He added that they have not arrived to Algeria yet and their families will receive them soon.
  • Ksentini told Echorouk that the Algerian delegation verified their nationality and identity before receiving them. “All Guantanamo Algerian detainees are concerned by the release and many US human rights organisations headed by Human Rights Watch intervened to defence them.”
  •
  • Asked what would happen to those detainees after their extradition, Ksentini said Algeria will not retrial them but it will study their case files one by one. It is possible that some of them would benefit from amnesty within the provisions of the National Reconciliation.
