Algerian delegation in Libya for prisoners extradition
Abdelkader Messahel, Minister Delegate in charge of Maghreb and African Affairs of Algeria

Minister Delegate in charge of Maghreb and African Affairs of Algeria Abdelkader Messahel Saturday said his country reached a final solution for the problem of Algerian prisoners in Libya.

  • “Algiers officially agreed with Tripoli to exchange detainees. The Algerian ones are expected to be extradited as soon as technical and legal procedures are done,” said Abdelkader Messahel.
  • According to him, a delegation of Algerian magistrates and representatives of foreign affairs ministry moved to Tripoli Saturday to check the Algerian prisoners’ case files.
  • Speaking on closed land borders between Algeria and Morocco, Messahel said the solution must be within a comprehensive vision on bilateral and regional levels. “There are daily flights between Algeria and Morocco although the borders are closed.”
  • In a TV talk show, the minister indicated that Morocco is Algeria’s first trade partner in Africa. Commercial exchanges between the two countries have reached $570 million. “A total of 550,000 Algerians visited Morocco in 2007 and 45,000 Moroccans live in Algeria.”
  • Asked on the US military command AFRICOM, he said Africa showed an ability to solve its problems on its own. “It has put a strategy to build the African plan for peace and security.”
