Algerian Energy and Mines Minister tightens the screws on Sonatrach
The Algerian Energy and Mines Minister Youcef Youssefi has ordered his managers during a meeting to limit useless expenditures that took alarming proportions over the last few years due to the solicitation of foreign companies for the realization of the projects or consultancy, that most of the time could have been done by the Algerian experts especially in the field of training.

M Youssefi has demanded from all the companies of the sector of energy and mines to abide by the new road map that requires a total transparency in the sealing of the agreements and called for the fight of corruption, squandering and avoid favouritism when it comes to seal agreements.

The Minister also ordered to put an end immediately to the mutual agreements’ policy that plagued the management of the Hydrocarbons Company and stop dealing systematically with foreign operators unless necessary.

Sonatrach and its branches operating in the south has sealed more than 1850 mutual agreements with foreign companies over the period 2003-2009 with the total consent of the company’s internal audit despite the staggering coast of some of them, forcing several top managers to react at the time.
