Algerian Families Call On President Bouteflika To Speck Up For Jailed Sons In Libya

Several families of the Algerian detainees in Libya called on the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika to speak up for them to the Libyan leader Maamar Al Kedhafi, in order to state on their fate.

The head of the committee for the promotion and protection of human rights in Algeria, Farouk Kessentini, reported news that the Libyan leader has last week decided to grant his pardon to the Algerian detainees, but soon denied by the spokesperson of the Libyan foreign affairs ministry in his intervention on the Qatar-based satellite channel, Al Jazeera

Talking to “Echourouk” newspaper, the detainees’ relatives were relieved to the hearing of the good news and celebrated the event, but soon disillusioned following the denial from the Libyan authorities

They took the decision to organize a sit-in here in Algiers on Tuesday.

The Algerian diplomacy started negotiations with its Libyan counterpart since weeks to find an outlet to this crisis. 52 Algerian detainees were put in jail on heavy charges.
