Algerian families call on the new Tunisian authorities to release their children detained in prisons

The representative of the Algerian illegal immigrants’ families in Tunisia, Kamel Belaabed expressed worries about dozens of Algerian “ Haragas” could have lost their lives in the fire that set ablaze yesterday the detention center of Monastir and the among the victims in the rampage of the prison of Mahdia.

  • The fire that broke out in the prison of Monastir has left 42 dead and dozens of prisoners broke away and various others killed in the province of Mahdia, media sources revealed.

  • M Belaabed, accompanied by the parents of the illegal immigrants, has yesterday moved to the Tunisian Consulate of the province of Annaba, eastern Algeria, in a move to demand the liberation of dozens of illegal Algerian immigrants detained by the totalitarian regime of the tyrant Ben Ali.

  • On account of the sensitive security situation that prevails in Tunisia, the security authorities of Annaba have denied the families access to the consulate.

  • In a telephone conversation with Echourok, M Belaabed has indicated” Our sons are detained in the legal and illegal Tunisian prisons of the tyrant Zine Al Abidine Ben Ali who didn’t have mercy for his own people how do you expect mercy for our children”.

  • He has further indicated that no less than 350 illegal immigrants aged between 19 and 42 stranded at sea and captured by the Tunisian police over various phase between March 200è and October2008.

  • M Belaabed has asserted that evidences show that our children are detained in Tunisian prison without trial after being arrested in the beaches of Benzerte, Sousse Monastir and Mahdia while trying to reach the Italian shores.
