Algerian farmers call on government to avoid them bankruptcy
Drastic fall of tomatoes and apples’ prices on the market add more worries to producers.
Algerian Agriculture Minister Rachid Benaissa asked the Algerian Farmers National Union to prepare a list of products to be presented to the government for subsidizing in order to offset the producers’ losses in case of falling prices on the market, adding that the Algerian authorities will extend their subsidizing policy to other products than potato.

In this respect, the Union’s general secretary, Ahmed Alioui, declared to Echourok that he has already forwarded a list comprising products such as , tomato, onion and apple referring to the drastic fall of tomatoes and apples’ prices on the market adding more worries to the producers.

He also asked the relevant ministry to postpone its decision to import frozen meats till March 2009.
