Algerian film “Outlaws†awarded the first prize at Damascus International Film Festival
The Algerian movie “outlaws†to the director Rachid Bouchareb won the two golden prizes for best film at the 18th session of Damascus International Film Festival that wound up the day before yesterday. The movie was unanimously rewarded at both the Arab and international competitions of the festival.

- The movie hit all expectations in terms of audience during his screening and was praised by the Syrian public and the theatre was full to its capacity during the closing ceremony. The reward of the Algerian movie was received with cheers and applause by both the Algerians and Tunisians alike.
- The Tunisians consider the Algerian trophy as theirs also in the sense that some scenes of the movie were shot in Tunisia.
- For his part, the Egyptian director Mounir Radhi, a jury member in the Arab version of the competition, didn’t hide his admiration for the Algerian film and has declared to Echourok that to the jury members have unanimously agreed upon the movie’s nomination.
- Some critics have considered Damascus International Film Festival a victory over Cannes Film Festival where the movie “ Outlaws” has stirred huge controversy among the French hardliners who staged rallies in the streets to stop the screening of the movie in the theatres judging its historical content “ offending to France”.
- The film “outlaws” was nominated amid fierce competition from a large number of Arab and international movies including three films that took part to the last Cannes Film festival namely: the Italian “ our life “ to Daniel Lucciti and “ Princesse Monbanssier” directed by the French Bertrand Tavernier.
