Algerian FM: Gunatanamo detainees released for health conditions
Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister Mourad Medelci

Algerian Foreign Affairs Minister Mourad Medelci said two Algerian detainees at Guantanamo Bay were actually released as confirmed by the Pentagone.

  • Beside spring session closure of Algeria’s Parliament, Medelci indicated that health troubles are behind the release.
  • On the other hand, there is no confirmation whether the released Algerians joined their families or not.
  • Earlier, Human Rights Watch announced that the released Algerians are reported missing while the International Red Cross in charge of this file did not issue any official statement on their situation.
  • Press attaché at the Red Cross told Echorouk that the Algerians had been released and Algeria gave the Cross guarantees to well treat them.
  • The future of the 15 remaining Algerian detainees in Guantanamo is still mysterious, according to Medelci.
