Algerian Foreign Affairs Ministry calls up families of prisoners in Iraq

The Algerian Foreign Affairs Ministry have summoned the families of the Algerian prisoners detained in Iraq asked them to forward dossiers including identity photos and birth certificates of the prisoners as well as all documents proving that they let the country for Iraq, the families have revealed.

Talking on behalf of the families, our interlocutor has indicated that the Algerian Foreign Affairs Ministry’s representative has asserted that the Algerian authorities are conducting negotiations with their Iraqi counterparts concerning the Algerian prisoners and assured them that they will do their utmost to avoid death penalty for the prisoners.

He went on saying that the Algerian prisoners’ families have demanded a fair trial for their children and spare them a slow agony inside the Iraqi jails, noting that they have agreed on the necessity to send an delegation made up of lawyers and officials to pay a visit to the prisoners in Iraq.

To recall, the number of the Algerian prisoners in Iraq is estimated at 14 and sentenced between 10 and 20 years imprisonment. They were charged with an illegal entry to the Iraqi soil.
