Algerian – French Committee To Retrieve Algeria History Archives
Algerian authorities were working to recover the historical documentation by experts and specialists, especially those related to all kinds of torture and abuse against the Algerians during the Liberation Revolution, Minister of Mujahideen (war veterans), Tayeb Zitouni, said on Tuesday, on the National Radio.
“France should recognize its colonial crimes. There is an Algerian- French agreement to form a joint committee under the tutelage of the Algerian National Archives. This committee would meet in the coming weeks to examine ways to retrieve documents on the history of Algeria”.
“Committees for Retrieving the National Archives meets on a regular basis with a joint committee for the missing, and it counted more than 2000 missing”.
“These documents are considered an incrimination documents against France, which is compelled to recognize its crimes, apologize and compensate its victims, because Algeria can not be dismissed from such horror. We have the intention to delve deeper into the study of all the files”.
On the other hand, the General Manager of the National Archives, Abdelmadjid Chikhi, accused the French authorities of hiding the archives which date back to the colonial period 1830-1962 and put it in unknown places.
“Algerian Archive that was hidden by France between 1961-1962 was transferred to the unknown stores, after it was placed in the Archive Center in Paris and the Regional Center in Aix En Provence, near Marseilles”.
“France and instead of enabling Algeria to launch the process that was agreed upon, it created a series of arguments along the lines with the need for Algeria to monitor the archive that it wanted. This is a crippling aim, because it requires a great potential”.
