Algerian government pays peasants loans interests, cancels feeds and fertilizers taxes

Algerian Minister of Agriculture Rachid Ben Issa announced a series of measures taken by the government to support peasants within the 2008 finance complementary law.

  •  The new measures stipulate that interests of peasants’ seasonal loans should be fully ensured, in addition to the abolition of the added value taxes on fertilizers prices by establishing a special fund to support young peasants.

  •  Algerian government is going to pay the benefits of seasonal loans which are granted for farmers.  This procedure will allow the creation of new stables and re-creation of neglected ones as well. That means 10,000 stables as well as encouraging cows import.  Farmers will also benefit from this procedure within water projects economy or wells dwelling.

  • The government also decided to expand the system of control on other products such as red and white meat, onions, tomatoes and dates. The ministry of agriculture is going to study the market and save the red meat from low prices, which had caused many losses to farmers.

  • In this context, the minister said the government is ready for any assistance and support under the condition of working hard and developing the product to improve the quality.
  •  He noticed that many regions do not have cooling rooms and storage depots following the decision of purchasing potatoes from farmers.
