Algerian Health Minister issues new guidelines to promote generic pharmaceutical products

The Algerian health and population Minister Said Barkat is scheduled to chair Saturday in Algiers a meeting with representatives of the national pharmacists’ Trade Union to made a deep perusal of the vexed issue of pharmaceuticals’ trading in the country with a focus on the necessity of promoting the sale and availability of generic medicines.

During the encounter, the representatives of the national pharmacists’ Union will draw the attention of the health Minister to the hurdles they currently face in the fulfilment of their duties notably the quasi anarchical situation brought about by the untoward “competition” between original and generic pharmaceutical products available on the Algerian market.

In this connection, the Health Minister is expected to issue a set of new measures and regulations aimed at streamlining the medicines’ market by urging the country’s pharmacists and Doctors to encourage and promote, as much as possible, the availability and sale to the public of generic pharmaceuticals in line with the overall health strategy adopted by the Algerian Government.
