Algerian industry minister inveighs against Managers of Enterprises Forum
Abdelhamid Temmar, Minister of Industry and Investment Promotion

The Algerian industry and investment promotion Minister Abdelhamid Temmar has urged the Managers of the national Forum of enterprises to refrain from criticizing, from now onward, the government's ongoing industrial strategy.

Temmar said it would be counterproductive for those critics to castigate the government’s newly-adopted strategy in the industrial sector all the more so as all the heads of enterprises had been consulted in advance on the feasibility of the scheme, as he put it.

Replying to a recent spate of criticism, Temmar underlined that he was still fully in charge of his sector of activity and enjoyed the unqualified backing of the head of government.

The Minister also stressed that the privatisation policy, initiated by the government, was still the order of the day.

Hamid Temmar added that his ministerial department was examining ways of rehabilitating about 900 ailing national enterprises to make them more competitive and to avoid further job losses as part of a new plan of action.

ALGERIA/UAE: “The EMAAR file is sealed, awaiting only the signature of the Emirati side”

In a statement to the press on Monday in Algiers , Temmar said that the Algerian government had endorsed the urban development project submitted by the Emirati real estate group EMAAR.

He indicated that the Emirati-financed project, including the construction of a business centre, a sea resort, a hospital and several hotels on the western coast of the Algerian capital Algiers , was now only waiting for the inking of the Emirati group’s CEO.

In this connection, Temmar asserted that he expects the formal signing of the 5.5 billion dollar worth building project, to take place as early as next week.
