The criminal court of Algiers is slated to open during its upcoming session, the pending file related to the assassination in his office of former national security chief, Ali Tounsi, after being left three years in abeyance on account of procedural reasons linked to sustained investigations into this criminal case by the relevant judicial authorities.

The main defender who is accused of committing the murder, retired Army Colonel, Chaib Oultache is still in provisional detention at the Serkadji prison in upper Algiers pending new developments in the inquiries.

The examining magistrate in charge of the file accused personally Chaib Oultache of committing the murder of Ali Tounsi but his defending lawyers surprisingly put forward the presence of a “third person” inside Ali Tounsi’s office where the assassination took place.

The lawyers affirmed that a “third still unknown armed person” had fired on the former DGSN General Manager, killing him and then bullet-wounded Chaib Oultache who was also present in the office.

However, this baffling version of the facts was discounted by the examining magistrate who still views, Chaib Oultache, as the chief suspect behind Ali Tounsi’s horrendous assassination.
