An Algerian man living in Tunisia tried to set fire on himself on November 16th and was taken in a hospital southern the capital.

According to doctor Kamal Bousalmi, Khaled Ayad Ait Gharbi suffers deep burns in his left hand, legs and face. “The patient’s condition is not worrying,” he told Echorouk.

The 53-old-year man said he committed suicide due to his situation as he suffered from oppression and was accused of making bombs during Benali’s era.

The Benali regime also accused him of marginalizing Tunisian exposers during Jeddah’s international fair as he used to work in the Gulf.

Khaled told Echorouk people in power neglected him while most of them were with him in the same jail before January 14th. Of them, Hamadi Djabali, Secretary General of Nahda Movement, Ali Laryedh and leading member in the movement.

They promised him to settle his situation and grant him necessary compensation.

Khaled also said he met former justice minister Nourredine Behiri who gave him the same promises.

“I am the victim of the regime of Benali and his brothers-in-law. I lost all my belongings because of them and I have documents which prove that. I did not get residence card although I was born in Tunisia,” he added.

He also said he wants to come to Algeria for treatment as the Algerian consulate in Tunisia received his wife and offered her a financial aid. It started coordinated with the clinic and the health ministry in Algeria for his treatment following a medical report.

Member of Tunisian Parliament Amira Salim said she learnt about Khaled’s case on local newspapers on November 27th and wondered why security forces did not notify the Algerian consulate about him.
