Algerian-Moroccan border under strict surveillance to avert infiltration into Algeria by Moroccan prison escapees
Morocco alrerted Algeria to the necessity of beefing up surveillance on borders to prevent inflitration by Moroccan prison escapees.

Moroccan authorities have alerted their Algerian counterparts to the necessity of beefing up surveillance and controls along the two countries' common border in a bid to ward off a possible infiltration into Algerian territory by several Moroccan detainees who escaped last week from the prison of Kenitra.

Observers, however, note that an infiltration by these escapees would be most difficult to achieve given that the distance separating the Kenitra prison and the Algerian border is more that 450 kms.

They also suggest that the current showdown set off  by the Moroccan authorities around the escapees’ issue, by notably seeking the contribution of neighbouring Algeria, is mainly aimed at salvaging the upcoming summer season and reassuring the numerous foreign tourists who are planning to spend their summer holidays in Morocco.
