Algerian MPs criticize NATO’s policy

Algerian MPs criticize NATO’s policy
The criticism highly embarrassed NATO’s delegate to Algeria, Claudio Pizonero and the deputy head of the Mediterranean parliamentary group Antonio Cabras.

The forum on “Security through Dialogue” organized by the Algerian senate jointly with NATO was transformed to a campaign of criticism and denunciation launched by the Algerian MPs towards this organization’s representatives. They were called for a minimum of neutrality when dealing with the state’s affairs.

  • The criticism, which highly embarrassed NATO’s delegate to Algeria, Claudio Pizonero and the deputy head of the Mediterranean parliamentary group Antonio Cabras, came against the backdrop of the political position of the Mediterranean coalition which intends to lift off the “blockade” on Israel through its involvement in the coalition’s activities alongside the Arab countries.
  • The deputy Sakhria Djeffal replied to Claudio Pizoniro saying that NATO’s image was dimmed by this organization’s support of a colonial force which oppressed a whole people during the revolutionary war, and that “this policy is still in force nowadays even if the context is different”. The deputy focussed on the position of NATO towards the Palestinian issue and called on this organization to stick to its commitments.
  • Other MPs denounced their fellow deputy’s call to enlarge cooperation with NATO, in the sense that this would be an opportunity for Israel to normalize its diplomatic relations with Arab countries while Barcelona’s plan failed to do it; M Abdelkrim Harchaoui was compelled to clarify his statement saying that he intended a bilateral cooperation with NATO not a multilateral one.
