M. Abderrehaman Chibane has been unanimously elected on top of the Algerian Muslim Scholars Association during the proceedings of the third session of the general assembly.

On the sidelines of these elections, the association members called on the religious affairs ministry to give these scholars more freedom to participate in enlightenment of the Algerian society according to the principles of its founding father, Abdelhamid Ibn Badis.

In their resolutions, the participants have demanded “establish a strong cooperation between their association and the religious affairs ministry to face the growing phenomena of sorcery, charlatanism and evangelization”.

The delegates focused on the necessity of “promoting the Arab language and give it the place it deserves within the different institutions and resume the process of spreading the Arab language”.

The participants highlighted the “role of their association in keeping national unity and called on the authorities to guarantee personal freedom as well as religious ones “

In this respect, they called for a” wider material and moral mobilization to face the attacks against the Islamic principles from the inside and outside “… they also insisted on “the role of the association in raising the awareness of the young Algerians from both genders”.

Replying to those who accused the association of being gripped by Islamic party members, the newly elected chairman declared “ the association didn’t melt in others and was never controlled by any party or social organization, adding that the association remained faithful to its historical identity and message”.
