Algerian painter Mohamed Bouzid at the UNESCO

Mohamed Bouzid was born on December 12th 1929 in Al Akhdaria, east of Algiers. He worked as a teacher until 1953 then decided to devote himself to painting. He participated in many exhibitions during the colonial period, both in Algeria and abroad, such as in France, Belgium and USA.

 

  • “memory”  is the exhibition dedicated to the Algerian artist Mohamed Bouzid at the UNESCO premisses in Paris. The openning ceremony attracted a wide audience Thursday.
  • People were eager to discover the 80 years old artist, icon of the Algerian painting. Diplomats, academics, artists, relatives and friends of Mr. Mohamed were present in this event.
  • Algerian ambassador to France spoke about the “Universality” of this artist’s works; “He is  inspired by  Algeria”.
  • He also discussed the artistic magnificence of this artist, designer of the Algerian seal and emblem in 1962.
  • Director of the Algerian Cultural Centre in Paris, novelist  Mohamed Mouleshoul said; “Organizing the exhibition at the UNESCO is a duty because this cultural place is the most appropriate to receive a genius like Mohamed Bouzid”.
  • “This great venue allows other visions on Algeria. It confirms the existence of silent talents”, he added.
  • The 36 paintings reflect the artist’s talent. They are based on light, a technique by Mohemed Bouzid to present scenes of everyday life.
