The pilgrims were surprised by spending the night amid rubbish. Electricity went out and air conditioners broke down causing asphyxia and respiratory troubles among them. Some of them died because of that.
Some of them entered in clashes with guides and especially as pilgrims from Eastern Asia entered the Algerian camps in Mena while guides were absent.
Thousands of pilgrims protested in camps 85, 86, 87, 88, 92, 93 and 94 as they were about to not perform Arafa rite.
Officials at the Algerian delegation said there was a delay in grouping the pilgrims and transporting them from Mecca. Hundreds of Algerian pilgrims were about to miss the religious time to perform Arafa rite. Ten of hundreds of them arrived to Arafa in the afternoon because of transport delay and bad organisation.
Pilgrims from Bangladesh and India invade Algerian camps
Director of the national office for Hadj and Omra Berbara Echeikh told Echorouk it was difficult to serve pilgrims as the place was tight and crowded by more than 3 million people.
He also said a number of pilgrims from Eastern Asia entered Algerian camps in Mena and tried to steal the Algerian pilgrims’ places. “Yet, they were taken out. This problem is due to the absence of organisers in the delegation in charge of keeping watch on camps and serving pilgrims in Mena.”
