Algerian PMs return home from Gaza

Five deputies from Movement of Society for Peace (MSP) came back to Algeria on Tuesday as they could not go through Rafah crossing pointy to enter the Gaza Strip which has been under attack for 22 days.

  • Deputy Abdelouahab Kelai told Echorouk the Algerian PMs were staying in the borders from Thursday until Monday evening.
  • He also said he saw thousands of tons of humanitarian aid including food, medicines and baby milk stored in an anarchical way.
  • “Aid was stored in stadims, public squares and halls in three Egyptian areas: Rafah, Al arish and Cheikh Zouid. They did not reach Gaza people who suffer from a serious shortage of necessary goods,” he added.
  • He expressed fears that the Algerian aid would be damaged, describing the situation in Rafah crossing point as catastrophic.
  • “It is open for about one hour per day only and when it is opened, only medicines, doctors and some reporters are allowed to go through.”
  • “We saw thousands of tons of aid piled in trucks along 30 kilometres waiting for the green light to enter Gaza.”
  • The Algerian deputies had to return home upon a personal order from the Algerian consulate and Egyptian security authorities.
  • Other delegations from Pakistan, Malaysia and Arab countries were asked to leave the area as well.
  • On December 27, Israel launched a 22-day-massive offensive on Gaza alleging it was targeting Hamas military compounds. More than 1,450 Palestinians, most of them were civilians were killed in the strikes.
