Algerian political parties for Bouteflika’s participation in the UM in conditions

Algerian Political class agreed on the fact that Algeria’s foreign policy remains one of President Abdelaziz Bouteflika’s prerogatives regarding his participation in the MU.

  •
  •  On the other hand, opinions on Algeria’s adherence to the MU as an entity including Israel among its members differ between supporters and conservatives.
  •
  • Spokesperson of the National Democratic Rally (RND) Miloud Chorfi said his party trusts President Bouteflika’s awareness and ability. “He is constitutionally responsible for designing and upgrading the country’s foreign policy.
  •
  • Spokesman of the National Liberation Front (FLN), which is the largest party in the presidential alliance Essaid Bouhadja indicated that the “participation in Paris summit next Sunday falls within the president’s competence and strategy to establish friendly neighbouring relationships”.
  •
  • On the other hand, Essaid Bouhadja confirmed that “objective and peaceful conditions must be provided to establish unions.”
  •  “Without that, the union will always remain fragile as long as there are some members in situation of war,” he added.
  •
  • As for the Labour Party, which was against this participation since the beginning of the UM idea, considered foreign policy as presidential competence. On the other hand,  it wondered about “Algeria’s interests in case of participation, and what will it gain?”
  •
  • Jalloul Djoudi, chief of information bureau at Labour Party said “Algeria has lost much because of its partnership with the EU and we are still gaining destruction. So, what will the MU bring? especially since Israel will be a full rights member along with Algeria.
