Algerian president Bouteflika hikes pupils’ grants up to 3,000 DA

Algerian president Abdelaziz Bouteflika decided in a hearing meeting devoted Tuesday to the National Education sector to hike the annual schooling grant from 2,000 to 3,000 DA for the benefit of over 3 million school-children.

  • The decision came just two days before the start of the school year, with the aim of enabling families to buy the necessary needs for their children, commensurate with the living condition, because the grant of 2,000 DA is not sufficient for the poor students.
  • Bouteflika called in the same context, the Minister of Education, Abou Bakr Ben Bouzid, for the need to concentrate on the seeds of scientific and technical knowledge’s side among children, insiting on the importance of rehabilitation of the scientific branches, which should occupy –according to him- an important place in the secondary level, to stop the school dropout and unemployment of the graduated.
