This institution will include officers from the economic brigade and will be entrusted with investigating on cases of corruption. Their prerogatives will be extended, for the first time, over the whole territory.

As opposed to the declaration of the Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia, who announced that the office will have a consultative task, this one will be endowed with larger prerogatives. The creation of this office aims at curbing the proliferation of the phenomenon of corruption that undermined several economic sectors and drawn the president’s projects through the mire.

As part of the new procedures, the national and foreign subscribers to the future projects should pledge to abide by the rules of transparency and honesty in order to be selected for the tenders.
