Algerian Prime Minister: Constitutional Amendment is necessary

Secretary General of Algeria’s National Democratic Rally (RND) Ahmed Ouyahia Friday said the constitution amendment will be done very soon and Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika will run for third term.

“Political analyses which say the support of the constitutional amendment and the call on the president to run for a third term close door for political field and candidacies are not true,” Ouyahia told journalists.

He recalled that President Bouteflika run for office in 1999 after being absent for along time while the six candidates withdrew.

“The request of my party for a third term is included in a clear work plan and not in the sense that the RND possesses President Bouteflika,” he added.

According to him, the constitutional amendment to allow the president running for a third term is nor necessary.

Speaking on non-coordination between his party and its two partners the Movement for a Peaceful Society (MSP) and the National Liberation Front (FLN), in the presidential alliance in terms of the constitutional amendment, Ouyahia said the silent of MSP does not mean reject or disagreement.

The Algerian Prime Minister said the Salafist Group chose to affiliate to Al-Qaeda making Algeria a land for coward terrorist acts.

“Some countries are supporting this organisation,” he said.

“Algeria does not accuse any foreign country for feeding terrorism.”

According to him, the country which rejects foreign orders and military bases on its land is likely to be targeted.
