Algerian prisoners in Libya are suffering in Ramadan

Informed sources from El Djedida central prison in the Libyan capital Tripoli said that 47 Algerians are sentenced to death, including women who , since the begining of Ramadan rarely eat in protest against the difficult psychological conditions they are living behind bars – according to their families – .

  • They told Echorouk that Some of them prefer fasting for long times, despite giving them poor meals, while some others concidered this measure as a reference to a hunger strike, after the jail administration transfered many prisoners to other more miserable jails in Tripoli.

  • The same sources said that the Algerian prisoners drink water and refuse to eat, which may endanger their lives because of the daily fasting, especially the eight who are sentenced to death.
