Algerian Religious Affairs Ministry not responsible for lawsuits against converts

Algerian Religious Affairs Ministry not responsible for lawsuits against converts
Ghoulamallah described prosecuted Algerian converts to Christianity as victim drug addicts.

Algerian Religious Affairs Minister Abu Abdellah Ghoulamallah denied that his ministry is bringing public actions against converts affirming that evangelisation is prejudice to law and order. Because of that, it is up to national security forces and the Gendarmerie to follow up them and notify Attorney General to file lawsuits.

  • At Dar Elimam in Algiers, on the sidelines of the religious programme ceremony closure “Koran knights”, the minister described prosecuted Algerian converts to Christianity as victim drug addicts.
  • On the other hand, he stressed the need to apply law procedures on them. That is why; national security forces and the Gendarmerie are keeping watch on the behaviour of these people.
  • As for the religious affairs ministry’ role, the minister told Echorouk that “the ministry is notifying about these cases and participating in investigations”.
  • On another topic, Ghoulamallah said his ministry finished defining the agreement about Algeria mosque with a German studies office after studying appropriate adjustments required for the file. It is expected to be submitted Sunday to the commission of public deals to be signed in July.
