Algerian TV buys rights of broadcasting 10 Africa cup matches

Algerian television buys rights to broadcast 10 matches of the African Cup of Nations 2013 in South Africa, from 19 January to 10 February on national TV channel, after reaching a final agreement with the Qatarichannel “Al Jazeera Sport”, the owner of broadcasting rights, which required $12 million in order to continue the agreement.

A well informed source told Echorouk that negotiations between the Algerian television and channel which owns the rights expired a few days ago, as the two parties will signed soon on a contract which ensures their commitment to all the terms of the agreement.

Al Jazeera Sports demanded $12 million, in exchange for the rights to air 10 matches of this tournament on the Algerian television, including the first round of the national team, and according to Echorouk source, the channel which owns the rights of broadcast stipulated the same value on the north African countries, in order to obtain the rights of broadcasting the CAN 2013, including Tunisia and Morocco which will participate in the event.

same source added that the Algerian television will broadcast the opening match between South Africa and the Cape Verde Islands on 19 January, and matches of the national team in the first round, as well as other matches in the case of qualifications, in addition to the two
matches of the quarter final and final.
