Algerian youth’s dreams worth 48 billion centimes
US Embassy in Algeria abolished a list containing dozens of young Algerians who won the green card lots in 2007, and who were supposed to be displaced this year to the USA in order to work and live there permanently, under the so-called “American Green Cardâ€, in which many Algerians participated annually to realise their dream of immigration to the USA, escaping from unemployment’s problem and win permanent residency card and a legal job there.
-
Immigration department at the embassy informed these young men that their files are unacceptable ,even though they win the lottery for the argument that their work is not required in the USA, which raised anger among the young participants who considered themselves victims, because they paid five million centimes for questioning in the Embassy, and paid from five to 10 other millions to prepare the required file, which needs all documents’ translation into English for submission of the American Embassy in Algiers, including a national identification card, driving licence, passport, birth certificate, diplomas, justice certificates, and many other administrative documents.

Number of the green card winners reached 1,024 in 2007, who immigrated to the USA before the current year end, in addition to paying 15 million centimes for each one to prepare migration’s file.

It is clear that 1024 Algerians willing to migrate paid in the last year’s “lottery” 15 billion and 360 million centimes, including five billion and 120 million centimes enters the exchequer of the US Embassy in Algeria, noting that these young people who paid these “entitlements” will not emigrate necessarily.

As for the 2008 “lottery” winners, their number reached 2,205 peoples, and the total of Algerians winners in 2007 and 2008 lotteries is estimated at 3,299 persons who paid 48 billion and 435 Centimes, including 16 billion and 495 million went for the Embassy’s exchequer.

It is noteworthy that the US government granted more than 55 thousand green card annually through the lottery.
