Algerians celebrated their independence day with flying colors

The celebrations of the fiftieth anniversary of the independence were high in colors and the sky of the Algerian capital was filled with fireworks, families went out to the streets during this summer night full of joy and happiness because liberty is priceless.

  • Scores of citizens marched spontaneously along the main streets of the capital while others parked their cars far from “ Maqam Echahid” ( Martyrs’ monument), where the part of the celebrations took place, just to contemplate the show.

  • The parking lot was full and families had to wait more than half an hour to get access. The metro was packed by passengers that flocked from the neighboring localities taking advantage of the gratuitousness of the tickets in order to attend this special event.

  • Exceptionally, cars were not allowed to park along the streets to facilitate the circulation of the citizens and assure their safety. At 10.00 pm the surrounding squares and parks were “invaded” by the citizens while thousands were still flocking to the place.

  • No countdown not event the national anthem, the organizers surprised them with thundering fireworks that illuminated the sky in the dead of the night. The reaction was spontaneous as the audience was chanting, applauding and smiling at the extravaganza.

  • Elders, children, women jammed and raised their heads towards the sky amid an atmosphere of joy living behind their sorrows, problems and despair for a while. They wished the night could last for ever.

  • Tough many have expressed their dissatisfaction contending that the authorities could have spared huge sums of money to use them for developing projects instead of squandering them in this extravaganza, others believe that the Algerian people have the right to celebrate their independence day regardless of the price.
